Working as an Interior Designer, clients inevitably ask “Well, what do you think?” or “What if it was your house?” That question is always needs to be answered, by looking at their lifestyle and their environment. But just recently I was asked what my 5 favorite pieces are at Historic Lighting. The answer didn’t come easily. I love the stores and I had to mentally go through the inventory, room by room. I finally found the answers by going into my space… into my home.
I live in Norco, California with my 4 horses, 3 dogs, 1 crow and my father. My sister and her family live within a mile and I have gotten quite involved in the community. Although somewhat a hermit when I come home I do occasionally love to entertain. The gatherings can be from 4 to 60 and I love to have everything look wonderful. The plates, the linens, the food and definitely the wine must all work together. My first favorite thing is the Prohibition Bar, a Monterey reproduction by Hile Studios. It looks like a dresser in disguise, and then opens up to a wonderful bar and serving piece. With the hand painted bronc and the colorful tile inlay, let the party begin.
We then move onto dinner and sit around my Monterey Dining Table and chairs, also by Hile. The chairs are comfortable and comfortable friends are happy and talkative friends. The evening continues as we adjure to the living room where this beautiful hutch, by Antigua, is opened up and the port is served. The hutch, a beautiful example of Spanish Revival, is filled with bottles, glasses and I would never forget the chocolates.
Stay tuned for my other favorite things…

The evening continues as we adjure to the living room where this beautiful hutch, by Antigua, is opened up and the port is served. The hutch, a beautiful example of Spanish Revival, is filled with bottles, glasses and I would never forget the chocolates. I love my dream living room. It is cozy and welcoming and when I do entertain, the evening usually goes late. My last two favorite pieces, I envision also in this room They are the Monterey version of the Zen glass table and the Monterey rug by Persian Carpet. Years ago, Mike Devlin and I designed, first, the glass Zen Table. The inspiration behind our table was really quite simple. I was designing all of these wonderful living and family rooms for clients but when it came to finding a coffee table, their only choices were all big pieces of wood, covering up their beautiful new rugs. So, we came up with the glass Zen tables. There have been 4 versions created and I love them all. My table sits on my Persian Monterey carpet which compliments all the colors, textures, furnishing and accessories in this delightful dream living room. Well, these are my favorites. I look forward to hearing about yours.
